With sedation dentistry, will I be totally asleep, like with traditional anesthetic?
No. Sedation dentistry does not cause you to lose consciousness. You will have complete control over your body. The overall feel is complete relaxation, and some patients even fall asleep in the dentist’s chair.
When does the sedative wear off?
The effects should subside by the following morning. You will not be able to drive or work for the remainder of the day following your procedure. It is a good idea to have a friend or family member stay with you until the sedative has completely worn off
Is the procedure painful?
We adjust dosage according to each patient’s needs so that the experience is comfortable and anxiety free.
Does sedation dentistry come with any risks?
Oral sedation has been safely practiced for the past 30 years. Dr. Weimar is a member of The Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation (DOCS), and he, along with our specially trained staff, will closely monitor your vital signs throughout the procedure to ensure a safe and comfortable experience.
Will I remember being at the dentist?
The sedative has an amnesic effect, which means that you will remember very little from the actual procedure.
For what procedures is dental sedation used?
Any treatments that may cause pain including: extractions, prosthetics, crowns, laminates, and gum surgery.
How do I know if dental sedation is right for me?
Dental sedation is a great option for people who experience. . .
- Anxiety or fear
- Sensitivity to hot or cold
- Difficulty becoming numb with local anesthesia
- Neck, back, or other pain that makes sitting uncomfortable
- TMJ disorder
- Delicate gag reflex
