Effective Treatments for A Healthier, Attractive Smile
THE IMPORTANCE OF GUM HEALTH
Gum disease is a common, yet damaging condition that affects the hard and soft tissues of the mouth. Nearly half of all Americans are affected by some stage of gum disease, whether it be gingivitis, periodontitis or advanced periodontitis. Without seeking treatment for gum disease, you are susceptible to jaw bone deterioration, loose teeth, tooth loss and even spreading of the infection to other parts of your body. Weimar Family Dentistry offers effective gum disease treatments in-house for all stages of the condition so that you can be on the path to a healthy smile with minimal interruption to your daily schedule.
COMMON SYMPTOMS OF GUM DISEASE

- Tooth sensitivity to hot or cold drinks
- Receding gums or swollen, red gums
- Loose or shifting teeth
- Constant bad breath
REGULAR GUM DISEASE SCREENINGS
Dr. Richard Weimar believes in skill, artistry and dedication when performing all his dental procedures, and has carried this philosophy throughout the 34 years he has been in practice. During your dental appointments we will always check your mouth for possible signs of gum disease so that we can catch it early. By providing gum disease treatment during the gingivitis stage, we can effectively eradicate the disease and keep your mouth healthy. If gum disease is not treated, it will advance to periodontitis and advanced periodontitis, both of which are incurable, and can only be managed with routine periodontal treatments.

GUM DISEASE TREATMENTS
SCALING AND ROOT PLANING
When gum disease first affects your mouth, bacteria and tartar build up get below the gum line and infect the gums as well as damage the jaw bone and tooth roots. Scaling and root planing uses small instruments to get below the gum line to remove the bacteria and tartar, as well as smooth out the tooth roots. This will allow your gums to heal properly and reattach to the cleaned tooth roots.
OSSEOUS SURGERY
A tried and true method of gum disease treatment, osseous surgery effectively treats cases of periodontitis and advanced periodontitis. We will gently remove infected gum tissue from your mouth, clean the tooth roots free of tartar build up and reshape damaged jaw bone. This effectively removes the disease and allows for your mouth to heal, closing any deep periodontal pockets where bacteria can thrive.
PERIODONTAL MAINTENANCE
After receiving osseous surgery for advanced gum disease, you will need routine periodontal maintenance to keep your mouth healthy. Suggested every three months, periodontal maintenance cleanings involve a deep clean of the teeth and gums and check for potential reinfection of disease.
