How Do You Avoid Bad Breath from Wearing Dentures?

Quite a few different things play a role in causing halitosis which is also referred to as bad breath. With this being said it can make it even more difficult to clearly identify what the source of the bad breath is so that that the appropriate treatment can be recommended. However, many people don’t know that your dentures can actually cause bad breath. Let’s explore how bad breath can be caused by dentures:

Dentures and Bad Breath

It’s very important to take care of your dentures and the most important way to do this is by cleaning them on a regular basis. This is because food can get stuck in your dentures the same way it could get stuck in your teeth. In order to be sure that your dentures are not the cause of your halitosis it would be best if you thoroughly cleaned them regularly. This is essential for maintaining your oral hygiene.

Cleaning Your Dentures

When it comes to taking care of your dentures an easy way to think about it is to consider your dentures to be like your natural teeth. Therefore, the same steps you would take to keep your teeth clean are the same steps you should take to keep your dentures clean. This includes brushing, rinsing, and handling.

Review the tips below to provide you with a better understanding of how to clean your dentures:

Brush your dentures – Brush the teeth and gums area and on the underside of your dental appliance

Rinse your mouth too –When you take your dentures out be sure to clean your mouth by rinsing.

Handle your dentures with care – Handle them carefully to avoid cracks in or on your dentures.

Other Sources of Halitosis

If you have kept up with the oral care of your dentures, but you still have halitosis it could be caused by:

  • Dry mouth
  • Medications
  • Smoking
  • Chronic illness

Schedule A Consultation

If you suspect that your dentures might be causing you to experience halitosis the very best way to determine this would be to schedule a consultation with your local dentist so they can examine you.
